Nigerian Minerals and Mining Bill, 2019 (HB. 87)

The bill seeks to establish a regulatory framework for the Nigerian mining industry in line with international best practices and create a regulatory authority to be known as the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Commission (the “Commission”) which shall be responsible for ensuring fair competition and encouraging investments in the mining sector.

The Commission shall be responsible for be for regulating the grant of mineral titles and permits; regulating the grant and renewal of mining leases; fix and collect fees for the grant of licences, leases, permits and all other powers necessary for it to properly carry out its functions.

The bill went through second (2nd) reading at the House of Representatives and was subsequently referred to the Committee on Solid Mineral Development for further consideration.
